AI Assisted Network Defense — A Practical Approach

About This Book

We cannot defend a network effectively without understanding how an attacker studies it. This e-book translates that philosophy into a practical learning journey: we map assets and trust boundaries, identify exposed services, examine packets, validate security weaknesses, reduce attack pathways, and build monitoring and response capabilities. Artificial intelligence becomes an assistant to this process—not a substitute for verified evidence or professional judgment.

Part One establishes the technical foundation through computer networking, penetration-testing methodology, reconnaissance, packet analysis, Nmap scripting, vulnerability assessment, mobile security, and modern infrastructure exposure. Part Two develops resilient defenses through identity security, segmentation, firewalls, Wazuh-led detection, incident response, and governance. Part Three demonstrates where carefully supervised AI can improve the speed, consistency and clarity of vulnerability analysis, threat hunting, and defensive decision-making.

Our exercises use intentionally created laboratories, synthetic records, reserved demonstration addresses, and simulated screenshots wherever appropriate. We assess only systems for which explicit authorization has been obtained. Readers learn to separate a scanner indication from a confirmed finding; to preserve evidence; to recommend corrective action; and to retest before declaring a weakness resolved.

This volume is designed for cybersecurity students, penetration testers, vulnerability assessors, incident responders, network defenders, and institutional ICT professionals. The practical laboratory baseline is Parrot OS 7.4 as specified for the book, subject to checking the actual version and tool availability on the reader’s workstation.
